Exploring Magnets

In Reception we have been exploring magnets and looking at forces. We discovered that magnets can push and pull and we learned the words attract and repel. The children talked about how they knew that magnets would ‘stick’ to things that are metal so we decided to test the strength of our magnets. We predicted whether or not the magnet was strong enough to attract metal through, sand, water and pom poms. The children did not think it would work especially not through water and were delighted to see that they magnet could still move the paperclips!  The children then decided to see if the magnets would work through other resources including the mirrors form our science area. They loved watching the objects move without touching them!
