Curriculum Statement
Intent
Through our PSHE curriculum, we aim:
To provide pupils with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, values and skills they need in order to reach their potential as individuals and within the community.
To encourage all pupils to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of their school and communities, and in doing so that they learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.
To enable them to reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
For our pupils to learn to understand and respect our common humanity; diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.
Implementation
In our school. We choose to deliver Personal, Social, Health and Economics using the Oak Academy PSHE programme. We believe this programme supports the development of the skills,
attitudes, values and behaviour. We allocate approximately 45 minutes of teaching time to PSHE each week in order to teach the required knowledge and skills in a developmental and age-
appropriate way. In the Early Years, children's personal, social and emotional development (including RSE) is developed through all strands of the Curriculum Triangle and is threaded
throughout the Early Years Curriculum in continuous provision and directed teaching. Every day, we aim to ‘live’ what is learnt and apply our learning to everyday situations in the community.
impact
The impact of our PSHE curriculum is evident in the way pupils interact with each other and engage with their community. Our pupils will develop a strong sense of self-worth and confidence showing respect, empathy and tolerance of others. They will be able to build and maintain healthy relationships and make informed choices about their health, safety and wellbeing.
Impact will be measured through pupil voice and feedback, monitoring of PSHE journals alongside teacher assessment and reflective discussions.
